ABSTRACT

Speaking about trends surviving for centuries in history might be considered a repercussion of the deterministic way of historical inter pretation. Since historical events are unique in nature, it is not easy to find out such decisive factors that may help to explain long periods. However, while studying the bilateral relations of states, historians often prefer to use the factors of continuity and change. In this regard, Ottoman-American relations present meaningful insights that not only are valid for the past, but also provide a reasonable explanation of contemporary Turkish-American relations.
