ABSTRACT

The most recent example of the impact of increased prejudice has been in Kosovo between Kosovo Albanians and Serbs. In this chapter I intend to present the role of ethnic prejudices and negative stereotypes in everyday life of the Kosovo Albanian and Serbian ethnic groups. One of the important facts concerning Serbian-Albanian relationships deals with mutual perceptions and public opinion polls in Kosovo. From the beginning of the 1960s to the late 1990s a series of empirical studies of national stereotypes was carried out. This analysis is based on seven sociological research surveys made between 1966 and 1999 by scientists, mostly sociologists, from former Yugoslavia (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, SFRY) as well as from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY).
