ABSTRACT
Education is a systematic form of instruction, designed to develop intellectual skills. While it would be valuable to consider all aspects of the Royal Navy’s educational provision in this critical period, the key test of any armed force is its ability to meet the demands of war. Consequently this chapter will concentrate on educational provision to prepare officers for the higher direction of war.
