ABSTRACT
The main thought underlying this paper is that the most serious problem presented by public enterprises (PEs) is that of efficiency and that the approach towards ensuring it, as a requisite step, towards instituting the indicators reflecting it, is of great significance. Several ideas are perceptible if we can wade through the literature on the subject. It is proposed, in the course of this paper, to delineate the approach adopted by Yugoslavia in respect of the efficiency of its enterprises.
