Somephilologistshavestumbledatthisfact,as theyconsidereditnecessarytotheproofofthe AltaiccharacterofthelanguagethattheAccadian formsshouldresemblemorecloselythoseofthe Finnicdialect.Butinthis,tomymind,theyare on]yyieldingtoapreconceivedidea;theyshould givethecharacterofrecentalterationstothedifferencesofformwhichdistinguishtheUgricfrom theFinnicroots.Butreallynothingjustifiesthis

opinion,whichisprettygenerallyadoptedbyAltaisticphilologists.Thepointsinquestionarenot necessarilyofanyfixeddate;theymayhavebelongedtoamuchearlierperiodthanisgenerally supposed,andconstituted,perhapslongago,the individualoriginalityoftheUgricidiomsaswellas oftheAccadianincomparisonwiththeregular Finnishdialects.Thisistheconclusiontowhich IhavebeenledbythestudyoftheAccadian language.
