ABSTRACT
Like all building forms past or present, housing is above all a social statement about the people and culture in which it is found. It is a clue to how people in a historically unified territory perceive and work out their living arrangements with each other. While modernization affects housing’s general character, culture is the major determinant of what gets built, for whom, how and why.
