ABSTRACT
1. (180b) Then Vajrapāṇi asked the Bhagavat Vairocana about the ritual observances for the vidyās with these verses, for the sake of those Bodhisattvas who engage in the Bodhisattva practice by means of mantras: ‘How is the ritual observance to be kept? How does one dwell in the morality? How does one practice without attachment to anything in any situation? After the elapse of how much time will the observance be fully completed? How should its power be recognized? In which abodes should it be done? Would the Guide also tell us the period [of the time needed] until one speedily becomes devoid of time, place, activity, action, right and wrong? I ask the All-knowing One, the Lord of Men, Perfect Buddha, about that taught by previous Buddhas by which attainments will be accomplished, for the benefit of future beings to attract them to the Lord of Jinas!’
