ABSTRACT

With the rapid evolution of the Internet and the increased flow of information, it is difficult to keep current without the attendant problems of anxiety or overload. This article explores the issue of current awareness services (CAS) within the academic environment and the role librarians play in assisting university researchers to (1) keep current in their given subject area and (2) more effectively use other support tools to automate the handling of this increased flow of information. Selected CAS alerting services are mentioned as is the use of e-mail filtering technologies. [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1–800-HAWORTH.
