ABSTRACT
Bektāshiyya Highly syncretic Turkish sūfi (q.v.) order whose beliefs and practices include elements drawn from Christianity. It is named after the 7th/13th century sūfī Hājjī Bektāsh. The order gained political influence under the Ottomans (q.v.) but was suppressed by Atatürk (q.v.). The main centre of the Bekt shiyya today is in Albania. {See Baba; Dede; Tasawwuf.)
