ABSTRACT

Nutrition and training states are two crucial aspects in determining successful outcomes in sports performance. It is not possible to perform adequate training regimens unless correct attention is given to nutritional support. Furthermore, good training leading up to the day of competition can be undone by inappropriate nutritional strategies on the day. Clearly, nutrition is a key component to success in sport. This review considers aspects of nutrition for racket sports players such as energy intake, the importance of carbohydrate and fluid provision, and the importance of proteins, vitamins and minerals. Although an attempt is made to relate available scientific information to racket sports, few good nutritional studies have been reported in peer-reviewed journals in this specific field.
