ABSTRACT

Mexican-US relations in the area of labor cooperation have become an important aspect of the binational agenda, mostly due to the effect that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has had on strengthening US-Mexico relations in general. Labor cooperation has also become more important over time as the relationship has been channeled through the NAFTA institutions that were set up to promote labor issues. However, in recent years, formal channels of labor cooperation—conceptualized here as meetings between the representatives of these respective governments—have broken down considerably.
