ABSTRACT

Jayden is a 29-year-old fourth-generation (Yonsei) Japanese American. He entered mandated counseling after he was convicted of driving under the influence (DUI). Jayden reported feeling very “ashamed” for disgracing his family. He noted that the week of his DUI was one of the worst weeks of his life because a few days before he had had to close down his art studio due to the poor economy. He reported that he was devastated because it was his life-long dream to have his own art studio. He stated that he felt additionally burdened and pressured because he was “not able “to take care of” his wife and 2-year-old daughter. His wife was now the sole provider, about which he expressed feeling “guilty.”
