ABSTRACT

Spanish language media has been growing throughout much of the last decade, so it may not come as much of a surprise that an increase in the Hispanic population coincides with this growth. The 2010 US Census reveals that the Hispanic population grew by 43 percent, with Hispanics accounting for 56 percent of the population increase in the decade between 2000 and 2010. The Hispanic population is now estimated at 50.5 million, making up roughly 16 percent of the total US population (Ennis, Rios-Vargas, & Albert, 2011 ). Keeping these gures in mind, this chapter brie\ y summarizes the state of Spanish language media over the last year, focusing on radio, television, print media, the Internet, and advertising.
