ABSTRACT

While much of the research in convergent and transmedia production has focused on de ning the concepts of each form, discussing the content produced for each, and examining how they are changing traditional storytelling methods (Grant & Wilkerson, 2009 ; Jenkins, 2006 , 2010 ; Morreale, 2010 ; Stark, 2011 ), one area not often considered has been how convergent media and transmedia producers have nanced and managed their productions and operations. While pro tability and return on investment are often considered to be the primary measures of the success of transmedia projects, it is possible to produce transmedia content on a small-budget scale with a focus on creativity and audience satisfaction. This chapter examines the nancial and management aspects of Norwegian Recycling, a producer of transmedia content that operates on a small-scale basis without an emphasis on pro t maximization. This chapter also examines the concepts of transmedia and convergent media, to provide a better understanding of how content for each form can be produced. Considering the characteristics and concepts of transmedia and convergent media as well as the production motives of Norwegian Recycling provides an opportunity to learn how transmedia content can be successfully produced on an individual basis with no pro t motive.
