ABSTRACT
Consider: a person is convicted of a criminal offence. She receives a sentence of ten years in prison. Upon complaining that others similarly situated have received prison terms of only five years, she is informed that her ‘dangerousness profile’ is higher than the others and therefore she merits a longer sentence. Because of this, and in order to reduce risk to society, she must serve a longer term than others.
