ABSTRACT
Introduction As it is recognized that a number of students on equality and diversity modules of management and business studies courses will not have studied the English legal system this introduction provides students with a brief overview of the system, and the impact of European Union (EU) law. The examination of the law in this chapter is valid at the time of going to print (November 1999). It is beyond the scope of this chapter to provide a detailed account of either system, and students who need more detailed understanding are referred to the ‘Further reading’ section near the end of this chapter.
