ABSTRACT
The history of economics currently appears to be undergoing a modest revival both among teachers and researchers. Nevertheless some of its important aspects and themes are still seriously neglected. This chapter is designed to link together two of those themes — methodology and professionalism — and to illustrate their interrelationships by reference to some of Fritz Machlup's writings.
