ABSTRACT

No matter how much the technology is updated these are the things that do not change. There are many shot styles but still two basic conventions: the camera is either static, or it moves. Trends change of course and some programmes want fast moving camera shots, sometimes with the shot whipping all over the place. News tends to work best with static. You need to know your shots in the same way a craftsman knows his tools, whether as a video-journalist, reporter or producer. The camera is only a clumsy impersonator of the human eye, but with one important advantage – it can zoom in and out of a scene. Three shots form the basis of all camerawork – the long shot, medium shot and

close up. These expand into at least seven different shots in everyday use.
