ABSTRACT

Since the early 1990s, the Internet has developed from a simple networked collection of text-based Web pages into a dynamic, ever-changing lattice of news, entertainment, and interactive services that attracts the attention of more than a billion people every day. Almost overnight, empires have been built via the Web and, just as quickly, the Internet has upset the balance of the traditional media marketplace. The proliferation of wireless access combined with the portability of laptops, tablets, and smartphones has made broadcasters’ digital presence more important than ever. As broadcasters and others endeavor to define themselves in the online world, the laws that govern that world are evolving.
