ABSTRACT

Several types of links are used for each category for radio and television, based on different technologies. This gets to be a complex subject, so we will only deal with the main principles here.

Standard telephone lines are probably the easiest links to set up, and therefore are often used for news reporting. Figure 11.1 shows a simple analog audio mixer combined with a telephone interface unit. This unit works with a standard dial-up phone line to connect a remote location to the studio, and provides reasonable quality mono audio with a return audio cue feed. Similar interface devices are also used that work with cell phones.
