ABSTRACT

THE EFFECT OF THEATRICALLY RELEASED MOTION PICTURES ON OTHER WINDOWS, RIGHTS, AND PRODUCTS For a motion picture to warrant beginning its distribution in theaters, it must appear to meet its theatrical target audiences’ expectations. Audiences expect these pictures to be substantive entertainment. Theatrical feature films should create an emotional fire in their audiences. This quality ought to be the “event” even in event motion pictures. Special effects-driven films may generate a respectable gross in the first or second film in which a new effect is used, but effects quickly lose an audience’s respect if they are a picture’s centerpiece.
