The differences that Photoshop elements thrives on for selection-free editing can usually be found in the component channels of the RGB image. The red channel is employed to enhance the sky while using the blue channel to mask the effects. The red channel in the seascape image is information-rich in the sky, whilst the blue channel has excellent contrast that could be utilized for the creation of a mask to control localized adjustments. Users of the full version of Photoshop have this information available in the channels panel. The Photoshop elements user must find another way, as the channels panel is out of bounds. To start the ball rolling duplicate the background layer by dragging it to the New Layer icon in the Layers panel and then add a Solid Color adjustment layer from the Create Adjustment Layers menu in the Layers panel.
