ABSTRACT

By the grouping of individual units families are established. By the grouping of families the nation is formed. As the nation resembles the family group so do all the people unite in the sentiment of love of country, in the same manner as the individual loves his home. Since to love one's self is an innate and natural impulse even the uncultured and the uneducated respond to it. Self-love is an innate tendency which enables men to achieve position in the world. Developed and enlarged this selflove becomes love of family and love of home. In its fuller manifestation it becomes love of country or true patriotism. Such is, indeed, the logical consequence and the natural development of the human impulse of self-love. Men who are moved by self-love and who desire to enjoy a long and prosperous life do not limit the impulse to themselves as individuals but extend this love to family and home. Again, there is considered to be no safer way of securing a complete realisation of self-love than within the national organisation.
