ABSTRACT

The call for climate adaptation is far from uncontroversial in the Netherlands. Some 2 have openly lambasted the ‘climate hysteria’, which they feel has come to dominate the political-administrative elite (Hulme, 2009). Not only the seriousness of climate change but also the need to face up to its consequences are perceived differently. The prescriptions on how to deal with climatic change are not unanimous. Where one coalition advocates resistance, another advocates resilience as the corner stone for adaptation.
