ABSTRACT
The centuries pass, heavy with the destinies of mankind, but the once busy metropolis is as silent as the tombs that are honeycombed in her walls. She becomes a legend, a city that may have once existed or that may even be a myth. Only the students still keep a desire to re-discover the rock city, and they are kept away because the part of Arabia Petrrea in which it is supposed to be situated, is infested by war-like Arabs who resent any intrusion. In the case of Petra, that they guarded so jealously, it was accentuated by a tradition that some of the great riches that had once been kept there were still hidden among the caves.
