Ovid,l He makes awkward attempts at different methodsalliterations, parallelisms between his verses, antitheses, and piling up of synonyms. He sometimes attains to very forcible compendious phrases in his turn of expression. But any appreciation of art was wanting to him; with the exception of a few happy points, the whole is prosaic, heavy and maladroit.
