ABSTRACT

Video recordings of sport and exercise activities are usually made by biomechanists in order to undertake detailed analysis of an individual’s movement patterns. The focus of this chapter is on quantitative analysis, which involves taking accurate measurements from video recordings to enable selected movement variables to be quantified either in two dimensions, or three dimensions. Practical advice is given on the applications and limitations of various hardware and software options currently available to conduct quantitative video analysis. Guidelines are then provided on common methods of capturing, processing and analysing video-based data, and on how to report a video-based study.
