ABSTRACT

Arts entrepreneurship is an emerging academic field populated and popularized by disparate constituencies, educators and administrators from both arts and business schools, arts policy and art administration programmes. The development of this new academic field is emerging as an organic process requiring many hands, hence the disciplines and sub-disciplines mentioned above. From establishing academic legitimacy to course adoption and programme authorization, from faculty consensus to student success, these processes are seldom linear and marked with experi - mentation, confusion and, sometimes, overwhelming success. Uniquely, the title of the field is explicit in reflecting disciplinary perspectives, the diverse constituent nature of the endeavour and its explicit tension: suffix vs. prefix. In fact, this tension can appear so extreme that the individual philosophies surrounding the two words can only be described as opposed.
