ABSTRACT
At just 14, Betty has already experienced so much. As head of the household she is responsible for her whole family. Not only does she have to look after her sick mother, whose frequent fits and obvious confusion would be a challenge for any adult, but she also has to care for her two younger sisters too and try to earn an income to ensure they are all fed and clothed while trying to also afford the medicines her mother needs. On top of this she is also pregnant! It seems crazy that with her being under the age of 16 I still had to ask for her mother’s consent to speak to her when she is the one that makes decisions every day, not only for herself but for her whole family, but this I duly did, as well as ensuring she gave her own consent too.
