ABSTRACT

Thanks to the Internet and the web, getting news no longer means waiting for the newspaper to be delivered to your front door, or to tune in to a network newscast in the early evening. The news you want can come to you, if you sign up for e-mail news alerts or set up mobile apps (applications) with your Facebook or Twitter accounts. If you can’t watch your favorite college football team’s game on TV or listen to it on the radio, you can get updates every 30 seconds on ESPN mobile. Where it used to be that the audience would seek out the news, the prevailing attitude is one that “if the news is that important, it will find me.” That sentiment encapsulates the importance of social media getting news out to audiences.
