ABSTRACT

Design occupies a unique space amongst human activities. Located where culture and commerce intersect, design is the activity that connects what we need (the problem, gap or opportunity that inspires the designer), with what we make (the product or service the designer plans for), with how we experience and appreciate the world (the way the product looks, or the service works, and what its appearance means), with how we now live (the purchase and consumption of the product), with our impact on the world (the resources the product consumes).
