ABSTRACT

The use of microblogging has become very popular. However, until recently, its usage in higher education has been largely limited to informal, social inter-action (Faculty Focus, 2010). This chapter presents findings from Sinnappan and Zutshi (2011a, b) that suggests that microblogging can facilitate all aspects of a Community of Inquiry (CoI). Encouraged by the findings and based on our reflection, we propose a framework to facilitate CoI in higher education by facilitating learning activities that require students to interact with their peers as well as other student cohorts. Here we present some key findings from our trial use of microblogging to facilitate a CoI and also presents our initial frame-work for further usage of microblogging in higher education.
