ABSTRACT
Research is not merely the gathering of facts, but is a process by which we collect, analyse and interpret knowledge in order to answer a research question, resolve a problem or contribute greater understanding of a phenomenon. Knowledge is not just the acquisition of facts but has deeper meanings; it is commonly defined as justified true belief. The role of research at sustainable universities is to enhance knowledge generation, mobilisation and implementation for a more equitable, healthier and happier society and to understand and develop environmental integrity.
