ABSTRACT

Interest in socially responsible investments (SRI) is steadily increasing. The Social Investment Forum reports that about one out of nine dollars under professional management in the US is invested according to socially responsible investment criteria. 2 In accordance with the growth of the SRI market the number of SRI studies has also increased. Most SRI studies focus on the performance of SRI mutual funds. Generally, these studies indicate that the performance of SRI mutual funds is comparable to the performance of their conventional counterparts. 3 However, all these studies neglect the question of to what extent SRI investors actually care about performance.
