ABSTRACT
ALTHOUGH James Johnson died on 18 May 1917, his soul was never to rest in the grave. Fifty years after Holy Johnson's death African nationalists were to struggle in the direction of the goals he had upheld-Pan-Africanism, political and religious independence, mental emancipation, and cultural renaissance.
