ABSTRACT

Perhaps more than any other country in the world, the United Kingdom has embraced advances in violence risk assessment over the past two decades and incorporated them into daily practice in civil mental health, forensic mental health, and correctional settings. A number of researchers and research groups have made important contributions to the knowledge base. Moreover, agencies such as the National Health Service, the National Offender Management Service and Her Majesty's Prison Service in England and Wales, and the Scottish Prison Service and the Risk Management Authority in Scotland — to name but a few — have made major contributions to the dissemination of knowledge and enhancement of practitioners' skills with respect to violence risk assessment and management. It comes as no surprise, then, to see a book of this sort emerge from the UK.
