ABSTRACT

Post-1960s South Korea (hereafter Korea) developed rapidly from a poor agricultural society into a rich, industrialised ‘Asian Tiger’ economy. Then the 1997 Asian Crisis hit and ‘the miracle on the Han River’ seemed a ‘mirage’. However, performance recovered up to the post-2008 global financial crisis (see chapter 2). Within this roller-coaster ride of development, management and culture changed from being eulogised to being castigated. So, examining the development and influence of management and culture in Korea is important for several reasons.
