ABSTRACT

Mark’s parents had difficulties; his father was often absent from home, he was alcoholic, short tempered, and self-centered. His mother loved and cared for him but was submissive to his father. The strong, big man was not impressed with his tiny, skinny son. Mark commented on his relationship with his father by saying, “he spent short, low-quality time with me.” An adult neighbor sexually assaulted him at age eight. At age 11, his father died; his mother got a job and a live-in male companion, whom Mark hated.
