ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Social media now pervade the lives of students. This chapter explores existing cases and developing issues as the legal and school communities wrestle with how to handle students’ social media speech, which is often created off campus but may have impact on campus.Confusion and uncertainty about social media and students’ rights prevail, as the law has failed to catch up to the technology around it. Rather than outlawing social media use by students, educators are advised to encourage responsible, constructive uses.
