ABSTRACT

The Consortium for Improving Agriculture-based Livelihoods in Central Africa (CIALCA) is a collaborative agricultural research-for-development plat-form operating in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, specifically in Burundi, Rwanda and North and South Kivu provinces (also Kisangani and Bas-Congo) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It was founded in 2006 by three international agricultural research centres (IARCs): Bioversity International, the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Institute of the Inter national Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT-TSBF) and the Inter national Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
