ABSTRACT

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) identified tourism as one of the ten priority sectors in its Green Economy Initiative, where investing in sustainable solutions can drive economic recovery and growth while simultaneously addressing social inequalities and environmental challenges (UNEP 2011). As a contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, tourism is expected to take its share in mitigation of climate change. While efforts in mitigation of climate change are necessary, it is increasingly recognised in the international research and policy communities that it is imperative for all economic sectors to adapt to unavoidable climate change impacts (IPCC 2007).
