ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to assess, through the lens of the Brazilian ethanol production, the opportunity for developing countries to invest in the so-called renewables sector under the framework of the current world crisis. What we know from previous crises is that it tends towards a process of “creative destruction”, where some sectors decline while others rise. One can infer that the new technology wave encompasses biotechnology, nanotechnology, bioelectronics and new energies.
