ABSTRACT
Taken together, the fourteen rich and varied country case studies in this book offer a distinctive contribution to the conceptual development of the topic of lifelong learners and higher education. But this is no abstract discussion. The structures and processes examined result in significantly different distributions of opportunities for learners of different ages and socio-economic backgrounds to gain access to higher education over their lifecourse.
