ABSTRACT

Wheelchair racing is one of the most popular sports among persons with locomotors disabilities. Wheelchair racing competition can range from 100 m, in a short distance event, to 42,000 m in a marathon event. With an increase in the number of wheelchair athletes participating in these competitions, there is an increasing occurrence of sports-related injuries and overuse syndromes, which may result from various factors, including training techniques, pattern and use of protective equipment, and flexibility, strength and amount of time in training of the athletes (Ferrara and Davis, 1990; Taylor and Williams, 1995).
