ABSTRACT
Practicing pharmacists are charged with many responsibilities under federal and state laws and regulations. The federal law that regulates controlled substances is the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970. The CSA became effective May 1, 1971, and consolidates into one piece of legislation a number of laws passed by Congress since the Harrison Narcotic Tax Act of 1914, the first comprehensive federal legislation to control addicting drugs.
