ABSTRACT

The specificity of a postmodern tribe is clearly its aesthetic. In the same way that politics were the sign of modernity, aesthetics may be the sign of postmodern society. Of course, we should apprehend this word in its etymological sense of people feeling emotions together. This is the sort of aesthetics that provide foundations for a community, offering a basis for what I have in the past called the postmodern ‘tribe’ (Maffesoli, 1988).
