ABSTRACT

This school started life in the early 1950s as a junior high school. It had no academic pupils because they were ‘creamed off’ to the local senior high school. During its first few years there were about 750 pupils in four years. At the time of this study the school had grown into a six-year comprehensive of about 1,400 pupils and was expected to reach a maximum of 1,600 pupils in the late 1970s.
