ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 outlined the importance of developing physical literacy in youth athletes, as the basis of both sporting excellence and physical activity for health. Physical literacy is itself composed of fundamental movement skills together with fundamental sport skills (Higgs et al., 2008). One key element of fitness closely linked to fundamental movement capacity is the concept of agility, and the development of high levels of agility should be a key part of any long-term physical development programme for a youth athlete.
