ABSTRACT

A report from the Institute of Medicine (IOM, 2001b) states that “a basic assumption underlying intervention research is that tested interventions found to be effective are disseminated to and implemented in clinics, communities, schools, and worksites” (p. 294). Furthermore, it has been suggested that the health impact of an intervention depends not only on its effectiveness but also on the extent to which it reaches its target audience and is implemented and sustained within the target settings (Oldenburg, Sallis, Ffrench, & Owen, 1999).
