ABSTRACT
This chapter explores:
the incidence of children who are bereaved, having lost a close family member;
the stages of grief and why it impacts on learning;
cultural and gender differences in dealing with bereavement;
when a child dies, including when a child loses a sibling;
when a child loses a parent;
supporting children bereaved by a death due to suicide; and
when a children experiences loss because of family breakdown.
